Native to Europe and Asian country and commonly known as garden heliotrope, Valerian is an herbaceous perennial plant. Its major active compounds are flavanones, alkaloids, and sesquiterpenes. It also contains valerenic acid, beta-sitosterol, ursolic acid, 4, 4', 8, 8'-tetrahydroxy-3, 3'-dimethoxyl-dibenzyl-ditetrahydrofuran and caryophyllene acide, valerane, naphthalene, linoleic acid, ethyl ester, myrtenyl acetate. Packed with a plethora of health-beneficial components, it is used as an herbal medicine.
